Twitter users are claiming that Pepsi not only appropriated the struggle of African Americans against the police, but they also used someone who is a habitual culprit of appropriating black culture. The tipping point, however, is after being reminded of this photo of Baton Rouge Nurse Ieshia Evans.
Ms. Evans was poised and graceful in her face-to-face confrontation with heavily armored Special Taskforce members last summer. She and a large group of Louisiana’s best were protesting the death of Alton Sterling, a man who was shot and killed by police for selling CDs outside of a convenience store.
Twitter users are taking to memes to describe the lunacy of the Pepsi writers for suggesting that a hostile police civilian situation can be solved by twelve ounces of carbonated water with artificial flavoring. Here are a couple of the most interesting ones.
There were plenty more and this will definitely be a major talking point for the months to come as companies figure out how to address the political climate without angering the people that buy their products. The executives at Coca-Cola are definitely smiling right now.
